Black Jaws Special Edition
As a diehard Jaws fan and lover of nature’s most intimidating creatures, I was drawn to reinterpret one of cinema’s most iconic posters, but this time, through a lens that centers Black representation in a space where it’s long been absent.
This design explores what Jaws might have looked like with a Black-centric cast. At the heart of the composition is a Black woman with a full afro and high-waisted two-piece swimsuit — a nod to the 1970s, when Jaws was first released. Her presence disrupts the absence of Black characters in horror and thriller genres of the time.
The custom typeface pays homage to the original poster, while the signature color palette and composition remain untouched — a deliberate choice to retain the visual nostalgia while reimagining the narrative.
More than aesthetic, this piece is a reminder that there's always room for creative perspective and social and cultural commentary.
